Discussion Board # 1 Part II: This unit covers equal employment opportunity and discrimination. For a quick review, you can access the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s Discrimination by Type webpage to review discrimination by type. Considering the many types of employment discrimination, share which discrimination law you believe is the most important. Explain your rationale. Respond to post # 1 In my orginization we have to maintain accrediation for many types of programs, one being EEO. One of the most important, and most difficult, discrmination laws to abide by is hiring and maintaining based on gender. In my company we have three contract sites that are warehouse positions, and a busniness development team which gets these contracts from government agencies. These two areas are my focus for this discussion as we find it difficult to hire women in these positions. We do not get as many women applying for these positions as they are more manual labor and traveling sales. Most of the women come from referrals that understand the warehouse is not as manual as it may seem. We currently do not have any women on our business development team. Also, we notice that location plays a huge role in the type of canidates we receive. We have different types of warehouse sites in seven states. Our site in the midwest has the most female workers, and in some sites we had no women even apply. It is a fine line to keep up with maintaining EEO and not discriminating in hiring based on gender. It is almost a catch 22. If we hire because we need more women we acheive our EEO status, but if we hire women to acheive that we could be accused of discrmination for not hiring the men. We just have to go based on qualifications and what is ethical. In all EEO discrimination it is best to practice ethically and be mindful not to judge a person’s ability based on what we may assume. Discussion board # 2 When hiring an employee, which do you believe is more important: person-organization fit or person-job fit? Explain your rationale, and use examples if possible. With your answer in mind, think about someone who you have worked with who was not a good fit and ended up leaving the organization. Share your insights as to why the individual left the organization. Please keep the person and organization anonymous. Discussion board # 3 Part 2: As you have learned in this lesson, it is not unusual for researchers to naturally adopt a methodology (quantitative or qualitative) that is consistent with their own worldview. Explain your worldview when it comes to research. Discussion board # 4 A Type I error is a greater concern than a Type II error. Agree or disagree with this statement and use examples to support your position. Choose a classmate with an opposing view and try to respectfully persuade them to your point of view.
