Demonstrate Descriptive Analysis of Data


The purpose of this assignment is to gauge your comfort level with creating basic charts and managing healthcare services related data. Use the scenario below to address the requirement for this week’s assignment.


It is 3:30 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. You had just received a call from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Luck, of the organization for which you are a healthcare administrator. In your exchange, Dr. Luck told you that he is preparing a PowerPoint presentation that he will be presenting to the organization’s board during their retreat the following day. He needs four slides from your facility, with notes explaining the content of the slides, to add to the PowerPoint presentation he is putting together. Coincidentally, your analyst, who normally completes data-related requests, is out sick on this day. With this pressing request at hand, you have to roll up your sleeves to prepare the slides for Dr. Luck.    

To complete this task, use Table 3 below to create the following slides:

a. With Provider ID on the X axis and Provider Training on the Y axis, create a bar chart.

b. With Provider ID on the X axis and Patient Satisfaction on the Y axis, create a bar chart.

c. With Provider ID on the X axis and Patient Training and Patient Satisfaction on the Y axis, create a bar chart.

d. Using the table below, provide a transposed version of this table using Excel

Note:  Provider Training = percentage of hospital physicians that have completed the patient communications training.

Patient Satisfaction = percentage of patient experience surveys rated “Satisfied” or “Very Satisfied” for their most recent inpatient stay.

Hint: Prepare your charts and data manipulation in Excel before transferring to PowerPoint.

Length: 6 slides, including title and reference slides. 1 deliverable per slide (deliverables = 3 charts and 1 transposed table). Speaker notes that provide a description of each chart and the steps you took in Excel to transpose the table must be included.

Part 2

Create Pivot Tables of Healthcare

Pivot tables are powerful Excel tool that allow you to easily summarize and analyze data. This assignment will assess your ability to create pivot tables and regular tables/charts using MS Excel. To do this, you will create a pivot table for the descriptive table you produced in the previous assignment.

For this assignment, you will create a pivot table that represents the regular Excel tables you created for Assignment 1 from this week (Week 4). This will be created using Excel. In addition, provide a brief summary of the steps you used in developing the pivot table in excel. Also, provide at least two benefits of using a pivot table rather than a normal excel table.
