As an academic editor and former researcher, I understand the need to secure funding and how clear, precise, and compelling communication can help achieve that goal. As a graduate student, I submitted 9 grants through a variety of funding agencies (NSF, NIH, DoD, as well as local and international opportunities), securing scores, honorable mentions or funding most submissions. Through constructive grammatical and developmental feedback, I have helped numerous colleagues improve their proposals. Additionally, I have sat in the seat of the reviewer, scoring over 70 health-related grant proposals on scientific merit, feasibility, and innovation; thus, I have a deep understanding of what funding agencies find valuable. I have extensive writing and editing experience across a broad range of scientific fields, including neuroscience, psychology, biology, medicine, public health and biomedical engineering. I have worked with both native and non-native English speakers to improve the grammar, diction, clarity and flow of their writing. The bulk of my 9 years of experience has involved academic research, writing, and editing. I take pride in my work. You can count on me to give your project the same level of attention that I would give my own! During my time at UNC-CH, I worked in cutting-edge clinical psychology and neuroscience labs for 3 years, and after graduating, I moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to work for 2 years as a laboratory technician in a neuroscience lab at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In 2017, I earned my PhD in Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Maryland College Park for my work on the dopamine system, motivation, and decision making. After graduating and working as postdoctoral researcher, I had the opportunity to pursue a career as a professional academic editor with Research Square, where I was able to help hundreds of researchers from around the world significantly improve the quality of their writing. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and spending time with my husband and our very entertaining pets.
